A Concert Hall

Design III Final Project, Fall 2022

Prompt: Choose a site located in Barton Springs and create a concert hall with residences for working musicians,

When I first visited Barton Springs, this popular gathering space stood out to me. This site which consists of a community garden, a running trail and the lake, is the perfect spot for music and nature-loving Dustinites. My inspiration for the structure came from architects like 􏰉aha Hadid and 􏰋en􏰌o 􏰍iano who have created shell structures. The area I chose was forested and had no view of the water, so it was important to remind people of the proximity of water by implementing shell and fish-like structures. The form of these structures follows the shape of the running path that trails around it.

The design for the concert hall consists of a curved ceiling and angular walls to help with acoustics. The Buildings are separated to provide for an outdoor and active experience in this park. I redesigned the running path to incorporate a view of the water. Residences are positioned along the twisted running trail so as to maximize privacy and landscape view.
